Shri S.Ramalingam is the former Chairman & Managing Director of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL), formerly Madras Refinries Ltd(MRL) a major Public Sector organisation with two Oil Refineries with the capacity of 10 million MTPA. Mr. Ramalingam is also former Chairman, National Aromatics and petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. (AROCHEM) – a joint sector Petrochemical project to manufacture PTA and Xylene and Indian Limited (IAL) – a joint venture company with Multi National Company, Chevron Chemical Corporation, USA to manufacture Lubricating Oil Additives.

Origin of ENFUSE
Way back in 1948 a conference of Steam users and boiler inspectors was held in Madras under the initiation of then Government of Madras, Thiru. M Bhakthavatsalam, the then Hon. Minister of Public Works inaugurated the conference. As a fall-out of this Conference, The Madras Provincial Steam Users ' Association was formed and was so registered. The Association was formed on the lines of Manchester Steam Users ' Association with the objective of assisting boiler owners and users for solving their technical problems. In 1953 the Constitution and Rules of the Association were amended to include the newly constituted states of Andhra, Mysore, Travancore and Cochin. The name was changed to "South Indian Steam & Fuel Users' Association ". In January 1965, the name was again changed to "Steam & Fuel Users' Association of India" in order to bring into its fold, not only steam users, but also all types of fuel using industries, from 1977, the Association has not only concerned itself with matters pertaining to steam and fuel use, but also several others forms of energy, such as electricity, compressed air, renewable sources etc., In order therefore, to reflect its role, scope and range of interests more accurately, in January 1990, the Association has been renamed as the" Energy & Fuel Users' Association of India".
Organization
The Energy & Fuel Users' Association of India is a national body representing a wide spectrum of Indian Industries producing and using all forms of energy and fuel. It is being supported by Fossil Fuel Manufacturers like Petroleum crude, Natural gas, Coal, Lignite, Energy converters like Petroleum Refineries, Power Plants, Nuclear Plants, Renewable Energy companies and Energy consuming Industries in diversified portfolios such as Chemical, Cement, Fertilizers, Paper, Sugar, Rubber and Textile Industries, besides Equipment manufacturers in the field of energy like Manufacture of Boilers, Ancillaries, Instruments. In addition, there are members from Engineering consultancy organizations and specialist organizations besides, Government and Non-Governmental bodies. The Association popularly known as "ENFUSE" is a national body serving with a sole purpose of increasing the awareness among industries towards better energy utilization. The Association is a voluntary and non-profit organization, which seeks to maximize the effectiveness of energy and fuel use, particularly in the industrial development, by playing catalyzing and advisory role.

Conferences and Seminars
The Association organizes national energy seminar every year to focus attention on matters of topical interest in the field of energy and to take note of emerging technological and energy savings techniques. Papers are presented by experts from industry, academic institutions and government agencies, and are followed by extensive discussions. The proceedings of these national seminars are widely disseminated and are recognized to be valuable additions to the literature on energy. Special efforts are under taken to arrive at recommendations and consensus on significant topical issues relating to energy, which are forwarded to government and other important agencies. Some of the themes of earlier national seminars include: Steam and Fuel Economy, Energy Crisis, Energy Conservation and Management, Alternative Sources of Energy, Co-generations Systems, Energy Perspectives and Prospects, Energy Conservation Act 2001. Electricity Bill 2001, Carbon Capture and Utilization , Net zero emissions etc., Energy Efficiency and conservation and its implementation on a national level has been occupying the minds of the policy makers and leaders of the country for quite sometime culminating in the enactment of Energy Conservation Act 2001. In order to implement the law in totality, the need for a new breed of professionals Energy Auditors and Energy Manager has emerged. ENFUSE is fulfilling this need by offering Coaching Classes for the aspirants to appear for the examinations being conducted by Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
